Author's Note:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was one of our best Pantos - demonstrated by the fact we won the over all Cinderella Trophy at the Somerset Fellowship of Drama (and it won Best Original Script as well). When I was asked to write it, the person who was doing choreography for the Junior Chorus was passionate about having them involved more so I wrote the Junior Chorus as the Dwarves - and then at various points when the Fairy gets involved, you have a set of Adult Dwarves as well. Not every society has this so it is worth noting. We were lucky to have incredibly talented hard working kids on board, but it could be done by adults on knees and getting up. Fairy Serafinia-Melisandrinia or Fairy Bob for short was described as a "Gift of a part" and our lovely Sandra won Outstanding Performance of the year for her. It's not often the Fairy gets to be the lead in the big Act One Closing number, but she did and rocked everyone's socks off with it. Scruff the Dog, the Fairy's somewhat dodgy helper in trying to get the Prince and Snow White together was another new addition, and the fact that Snow White was present in spirit, not just having a kip for the entirety of Act Two seemed to be well received by all. Queen Malicia as well as her flunkies Rivet and Trivet had a great time. We had a running gag about how she would make an example of one of the chorus "The one in the Red Shirt" until Red Shirt learned karate and the tables were turned.
One of the things that everyone remembers about this performance at Wells was the epic UV scene we did as a confrontation between Fairy Bob and Queen Malicia - lets just say things escalated and a giant Deathstar exploded at the end!
