Dick Whittington and his Cat was the first script I wrote completely solo because our Chairman at the time was deciding to direct his first Panto and he found himself unmoved by the scripts he was reading. To put it bluntly, I was terrified of the responsibility of it all and researched, and tweaked and polished and we had lots of meetings to see if I was on the right tracks - I don't get that now. I get vague guidelines and then sent off to write something and make it funny!

Anyway, I was very lucky that Richard was in charge because he is a Director who knows how to get a visual spectacle and how things pace on stage and he was very keen about "not letting the energy drop" and being very traditional.

I particularly loved writing the Cat.  The Cat wasn't the helpful furry pet they are in many Dick Whittington's - and there was a device where the audience could hear and understand what they were saying and the cast could not which provided a lot of comedy. But, he got over his selfish ways eventually and saved the day  which was all to the good!

The whole show won the Overall Cinderella Trophy for best Pantomime in Somerset and it was Richard that encouraged me to try and get it published and showed me how to do that. It was picked up by Spotlight Publications and I'd be more than happy to give you any pointers if you buy it from them.
