Author's Note:

Avast Behind! the original version was originally written as a bit of a production team effort, and though I wrote virtually all of it there was significant collaboration. As is often the way with collaboration it got rather long winded and we had a fantastic time putting it on as a production, but had to do significant trimming as part of the rehearsal process. Years later, I was asked by another local company if I could rewrite it for them to use and I rewrote and edited it quite drastically and swapped in a slapstick scene as they requested and essentially it became a new script. That is the version you see here.

We had a grand time pirating all over the place and much to our surprise we did well at the Cinderella Trophy Awards. One of my favourite facts was that the person who played the part of the Parrot - who actually has very little dialogue at all but is on a lot, won Outstanding Performance of the Year from the Somerset Fellowship of Drama. She was fantastic, mimicking what was going on with people on stage in a hilarious fashion. As they say, no small parts only small actors!
